Welcome Back Year 8
Welcome back Year 8. I hope you all had a fantastic holiday and have come back motivated and ready to learn.
I want to take the opportunity to remind everyone of a few key people in the school that you can go to, if and when, you need help with something:
1. Classwork: if you have missed work or are struggling with a particular task you should talk to your teacher first or alternatively the Head Teacher of the faculty.
2. Welfare: if you have any welfare issues (this would include problems at home or school) you can see Mr Wilson or myself in the Science staffroom, Mrs Kyle in the Welfare staffroom or our Chaplain Ms Heidi Bishop .
3. Discipline: if you are being bullied/harrassed or need to report some other type of discipline issue, then Mr Moore is the best person to speak to. You can find Mr Moore in the library or email him on DARCY.MOORE@det.nsw.edu.au
Don’t forget you can also email Mr Wilson or myself on:
Mr Wilson: Michael.Wilson44@det.nsw.edu.au
Mrs Imber: Sarah.Imber@det.nsw.edu.au
Have a great term Year 8.
Mrs Imber
Time flies!!
Week 3 already ! You should all be settled and focused on learning by now. Just a few reminders:
- We have a number of new students in Year 8 so please make them feel welcome, particularly in the playground.
- Success at school is closely linked to attendance. In short, the more often you come to school the better you will do.
- We all function much better when we have had plenty of sleep, drink lots of water and eat a healthy diet.
We also would love to hear from students who have read a really great book lately. Perhaps you could post a comment recommending the book to other students.
Have a great day.
Mrs Imber/Mrs Wilson
2010
Hello Year 8!
I have been receiving a few emails re: the first day back this year. You return to school on Friday, 29th January. Please be organised!
This year, you will hear the teachers talk a great deal about being prepared for learning and life. The school will be asking you to think about: sleep, food and water.
What?
It is absolutely essential, if you are to be ready for learning and life, that you:
- eat a proper breakfast
- drink at least a litre of water a day (not including other beverages)
- sleep for 10 hours a night
If you eat, sleep and drink in the way recommended above, you will feel great, learn successfully and less likely to be trouble with adults and peers as you are not cranky or below par. This is important, very important!
Another matter. How are you pronouncing 2010? Are you saying ‘twenty-ten’ or ‘two thousand and ten’? Post a comment at the blog and tell us all how you say it!
Have a great 2010 and to enable you to ‘strive for higher things’, make sure you have slept, had a 1 litre of water a day and a good breakfast!
Good luck, Year 8!
That was the year that was…
The last day of Year 7 has come and gone and we are having the time of our lives. We have experienced many different things of our first year of high school, including some fantastically memorable extra-curricular activities.
During this year the students of 2009 did many terrific things such as:
- Year 7 Camp with Ms Imber, Mr Wilson and all of the year 7 staff
The camp was held at Shoalhaven Heads which we found as a good chance to interact with the students we have never met before, which was fun.
- MADD Night with Mr Wood, Ms Mayhew and Ms Gilbert.
MADD Night was probably the best night of year 7. There was so many amazing performers showcasing their wonderful talents and showing that they can do it.
- Band shirt day with Mr Wood and all the teaching staff
WOW, this was a great show and a great way to end a fantastic year. The performers included some students playing and singing and one of the teachers band performed some of their song which ended up making a huge moshe pit out the front.
- Science Camp held by Ms Morgan, Ms Imber and Mr Wilson
For some lucky students got chosen to stay in Killalea for three days and two nights, So when they came back to school we got told everything including that, if they had a choice, they would of build a house and stay there cause it was such a nice place.
So we are near the end of our Year 7 journey only 10 minutes to go till the bell rings then next year we wont be the babies of the school (YAY!!), and Emily and I hope will have as much fun next year as we did this year.
This year had gone so fast. During this year we had to fit a lot of occasions into our school diaries but it was all fun.
So have a SAFE Christmas and a Happy New Year and we will see you in 2010.

Term 4 – welcome back!
Great to see you all back for the final term of 2009. The end is in sight – BUT there are still 9 weeks to go and all of us (yes, even Mr Wilson and I) need to stay focused on learning. Remember, it is report writing time again so make sure you have submitted all those assignments – including the compulsory language assignment and the email task that Mr Wilson set you as part of the MAC course.
Speaking of MAC, it would be great if you could have a look at the post below which has been put together by Brienna, Tanae and Emily. Let us know what you think.
NETIQUETTE!!!
Recently in MAC we have been learning about ‘Netiquette’. Netiquette is the combining of the two words, internet and etiquette. Netiquette is a safe way to use and have fun in the technological world.
Key issues we have been learning about include: how to try and avoid things like getting yourself into serious problems (eg: cyberbullying) on the instant chatting sites, e.g MSN, twitter, windows live messenger, bebo, facebook and mysace along with many others. We have learnt to avoid those situations and if you happen to get in one to inform adults and the police.
So next time you find yourself using the internet remember the rules, decide what it is best to do and be the bigger person. Now we would like to know what your strategies are to prevent cyberbulling?

Welcome back!
Welcome back, Year 7. We hope you all had a fantastic holiday, with plenty of rest and fun with friends and family. It’s hard to believe that you are already half way through your first year at high school. We are so impressed by the way you handle yourself both in and out of the classroom.
As you start the new term we encourage you to re-read the comments made by your teachers on your reports and use them to help focus your efforts and learning in the weeks ahead. It would also be useful to have a look at your reflection sheets.
Keep working hard and have a great term.
Mrs Imber/Mr Wilson
Reports, Reports, Reports!!!
Well here we are half way through Term 2. All of your teachers will be busy writing reports, so now is a good time to make sure you are up to date with all your work.
- have you submitted all assignments
- have you completed all homework tasks
- is your bookwork organised
If you’ve fallen behind in any of your subjects please make an effort to catch up by seeing your teacher or a friend from your class. You could also go along to the homework centre on Monday and Wednesday each week.
Keep working hard.
Mrs Imber/Mr Wilson
NAPLAN – WEEK 3
Year 7 & Parents,
Important nation-wide exams commence on Tuesday 12th May and continue on the 13th & 14th.
It is essential that all students attend.
The acronym NAPLAN stands for National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy.
Notes have been distributed and the detail can be found at this website which also contains sample questions.
Good luck Year 7!
Welcome back!
We hope you all had a great holiday.
Term 2 is always a busy one. Your teachers will be starting to think about half yearly reports, so now is the time to really knuckle down and show them what you can do. Remember to submit any outstanding work and try and complete a little bit of revision each night.
Mr Wilson and I will be focusing on attendance this term so we want everyone to make an extra effort to come to school on time and ready to learn.
- if you have trouble getting up in the morning set your alarm
- if you are away from school make sure you catch up missed work
- bring a note for your roll call teacher explaining any absences
- get plenty of sleep!
Your success at high school will be closely linked to your attendance.
Have a great Term.
Mrs Imber
